It has been a concern in Maine for decades
-- a shortage of dentists. Now a new
study finds Maine has the worst "dentist to population" ratio in the
country, and the fewest dentists per capita in New England. Some new solutions are being studied, but
they don't come without controversy. One
idea includes allowing dental therapists in the state. Similar to a physician's
assistant in a doctor's office. Right
now, Maine law doesn't allow this kind of mid-level practitioner. But Alaska and Minnesota do. Michael Scandrett is here to tell us how
dental therapy is working in his state of Minnesota.
