A new program set to kick off this fall is aimed at helping returning war veterans transition into civilian employment. The unemployment rate for vets is at the lowest level in more than three years. It hit 6.9% in July, compared with the 8.3% rate for the general population. Advocates say assistance programs are a big part of that. Cheryle Nielsen-Pesce and Madelyn Litz are piloting a work ready program in Maine, with hopes of taking it state wide.
