Details: Maine Historical Society in Portland is offering walking tours of the historic Old Port section of the city. Formerly offered through Greater Portland Landmarks, these 90-minute tours are conducted by trained guides from the Maine Historical Society Museum & Store at 489 Congress Street and are the perfect way to orient visitors. The walking tours will cover the scope of the peninsula's maritime and social history. The uses and styles of landmark buildings and sites will anchor a discussion of how life in the city has changed over time. Visitors will be introduced to Portland's unique character—and characters--by carefully exploring its built environment. Tours will be offered on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 10:30AM and 1:00PM, beginning July 5, 2012. Cost of attendance is $10/person; not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
