UMaine Investigating Hazing Incident

By News 13

An investigation has been launched into a dangerous fraternity initiation at the University of Maine in Orono.

On Saturday morning, 19-year-old Joshua Gilmore of Levant was sent out into the woods wearing a suit and tie. He was on a scavenger hunt, organized by the Sigma Chi fraternity. He apparently got lost and couldn't find his way out until eight hours later, when he was found wandering along the Stillwater River.

Gilmore has been treated for hypothermia. The University says they will get to the bottom of the situation and will not tolerate hazing of any kind.

Poll

Do you think Portland's mayor should continue to be selected by the city council, or should voters get to choose their own mayor?

  • The system should stay the same. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  • Voters should get to decide. The city council has too much power as it is.
