Police in at least two communities are investigating a pair of threats against gay marriage opponents, the most recent Monday morning.
Over the weekend, Michael Heath, the man who fought against gay rights in previous years in Maine, got a threatening a voice mail from a man who said he was gay and owned guns and that he was his next target.
Another death threat was phoned in to the Yes On One headquarters Monday morning: "You're dead. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon...you're dead."
The No On One campaign responded to the threats with the following statement: "We continue to condemn any speech or action that doesn't treat people respectfully...our supporters have also face similar intimidation from time to time. We know [Marc] Mutty [with the Roman Catholic Diocese and Yes On One Campaign] shares our view, that we must treat one another as fellow neighbors and coworkers."
Police are advising Yes On One staffers that if they receive another threat, they should not leave on their own and should call the police.
