PORTLAND - Portland's new fire boat, along with two other rescue boats, ran aground Saturday night during a rescue mission in Casco Bay.
Around 4:30 p.m., firefighters were called out to Jewell Island in Casco bay to rescue a duck hunter who was suffering from mild hypothermia. That boat became stuck, so rescue crews sent out another boat. It was low tide, and that boat became stuck as well. The Coast Guard sent a cutter to rescue the duck hunter and the other two boats, but that vessel also became stuck.
Finally, the Maine Marine Patrol sent out a boat to rescue the duck hunter, who is made a full recovery. The other three boats had to wait for the tide to come in before their crews could free themselves.
