Furor Surrounds Anti-Gay Marriage Ad

Published : Tuesday, 20 Oct 2009, 8:44 AM EDT

Supporters of same-sex marriage are furious about a new television ad the Yes on 1 campaign is running. The ad continues Stand for Marriage Maine's campaign theme, claiming that if gay marriage is allowed in Maine, it will be taught in schools. Maine Attorney General Janet Mills ruled last week that the new law would not force schools to teach same-sex marriage, and in the wake of that ruling, gay marriage advocates want the ad taken off the air.

Gay marriage opponents say they will continue to run the ad because there's nothing in the law to prevent schools from teaching students about gay marriage.
