Mystery shopping offers sound promising, but not all of them …

In a scam the Better Business Bureau says is sweeping the country, some apartment listings on Craigslist are listed fraudulently.
Kristin Hamlin of New Gloucester says that her mother, who is relocating to Maine, turned to Craigslist for the apartment listings and found a place she loved in Auburn. She became suspicious, however, when the alleged owner said he couldn't show her the apartment because he was in Nigeria. He told her if she sent him a thousand dollars, he'd send her the keys.
Kristin and her mother did some digging and found out the home isn't for rent at all, but is actually for sale, listed by a Yarmouth-based agent.
Craigslist has a warning on the top of its rental page, warning consumers of these illegal postings.
To avoid falling victim to this scam, never deal with anyone out of the country, and never rent a place without looking at it first.
